There is a casino on I 40 near Grants,NM with views of 11000 foot Mt Taylor only charging $79/night. If this was built right in Flag, I'd be more inclined to stay. The SF Peaks and PondeBullBoxer31 are some 20 miles west and again, this is on flat high desert ground just slightly greener than Winslow. Twin Arrows on Exit 219 does not have any immediate mountains or anything striking to justify their $179 to $359/night costs. I was at the Sandia Resort and Casino in ABQ (didn't stay but spent a couple hours there) last weekend and they can justify their prices by having a beautiful mountain backdrop a couple miles east of their location near the Sandia Tram. I can see it being a resort Cody if there are majestic peaks and other striking features immediately nearby. Regardless, from what I've seen so far, it looks like it's going to be a very nice place. It won't compete with the larger scale casinos in the valley, but I don't think that's their intent. If they keep heading in that direction, they may have something on their hands. I don't think it will be very successful as a casino, but it's being marketed as more of a resort.
Considering the size of the Navajo Nation, they haven't really capitalized on gaming in the way that other reservations have (I'm looking at you, Pima and Gila River). The Navajo Nation hasn't had a casino in Arizona up until now and only have three others. Yeah, we have a ton of casinos in AZ, but none in that part of Arizona that I know of.
